Peder Jensen and Vernon Dutton, sensei emeriti

The Little Rock Aikido Club is a registered student organization at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). Instruction at the club is free (though there may be a $3 admission charge for non-UALR students/faculty/staff at the UALR Donaghey Student Center and there is an annual membership fee -- though no promotion fees -- for the licensing organization). Visitors and new members are welcome (please confirm that the class will be held prior to coming; see Attendance and Contacts below).

The LRAC teaches Kihara Aikido, a no-stress, non-competitive form of Aikido. Until recently, our sensei was Mr. Vernon Dutton, J.D., (a 4^th Dan^† shown above) who trained under Dr. Peder Jensen (a 7^th Dan with over 15 years’ experience). Dr. Jensen’s sensei was Dr. Clif Norgaard, who has over 50 years’ experience with martial arts and is a 9^th Dan in Aikido and a 9^th Dan in Judo. Dr. Norgaard’s sensei was Mr. Karl Geis, a 10^th Dan in Aikido, an 8^th Dan in Judo, and an 8^th Dan in Jodo. Mr Dutton and Dr. Jensen, while no longer active participants in the club, remain valuable resources to the LRAC and are available when needed; we are deeply in debt to both of them for their leadership.

^† – Dan denotes a “black belt” rank (though ranks 6^th through 9^th Dan wear a red-and-white belt and a 10^th Dan wears a red belt)

Meetings

Time: 5 – 7 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, when UALR is open

Note: Meetings will not be held on the following dates:

Thursday, March 22, 2012 [UALR closes early

for the Friday holiday of Spring Break]

If inclement weather forces UALR to close, the best

way of confirming this is to view the UALR home page

Location: Activity Room 1 in the UALR Donaghey Student Center

Except on Thursday, March 1, 2012, we will be meeting in Racquetball Court #1 on the 2nd floor

Visitor parking is available in the Parking Garage just east of the Student Center (the “V” below the “DSC” building on this map)
